1. Objectives of the funding measure
The research priority on professionalism in teaching in higher education - "research in higher education" - pursues the overarching goal of systematically dealing with processes of generating and teaching science, including the didactic, curricular and institutional preconditions to successful, good learning and teaching and with provable correlations of effects regarding the internal organisation of teaching and research, as well as external governance. In this respect, existing R&D capacities shall be strengthened, with particular focus on building up additional R&D capacities, thus enhancing the basis for verifiable decisions of actors in higher education. The projects that are funded focus on aspects that have so far only been marginally considered by research on higher education teaching: vocational orientation, relation to the area of practice and teaching competencies, the structure of academic teaching and professionalising teaching staff, curriculare and institutional organisation, transitions from school and to work respectively, and design of the examination system.

The documentation of this workshop’s findings will be made available online by early 2010, at
www.hd-hf.de. A special edition of the journal on higher education didactics, "Hochschuldidaktik Journal", is envisaged for March 2010.
