Research on Diagnostics and Intervention of School-Related Developmental Disorders
| Calls: | 25.02.2009 |
| Duration of funding: | 2010 - 2013 |
1. Objectives of the funding measure
Reading, writing and arithmetic are important cultural skills: without them, an active, self-determined participation in social life is difficult. Numerous studies prove that educational and professional opportunities are worse for persons showing deficiencies in these areas. An evidence-based promotion of the children, youths and adults in question is thus crucial to assuring equal opportunities for individual development. The developmental disorders of academic skills and respective measures of support have, however, not been adequately studied scientifically so far. Apart from checking for the symptoms of learning disorders, there is a particular need for researching individual causal diagnostics so that further steps towards promotional measures can be deducted. A precise diagnostics only can provide for the deduction of individual, causally related and evidence-based promotional measures.
This funding measure of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) aims to generate empirical knowledge through research projects, thus delivering a contribution to providing children, youths and adults with disorders in reading, writing and arithmetic with individual, causally related diagnostics and evidence-based promotion.
